When the television series Sons of Anarchy was released to an unsuspecting FX audience, no one could have predicted the popularity that a series about a dangerous motorcycle club would achieve. The Sons of Anarchy series has a total of 7 seasons . Looking back, there should have been no doubt. After all, shows about crime have always been popular, especially those considered prestige television like The Sopranos , The Wire , and Dexter . So did SOA, with just a few more Harley-Davidsons (and a Triumph) to boot.

With enough action, love stories and Shakespearean intrigue to fill a shallow grave, the series captivated motorcycle enthusiasts and the uninitiated alike for 7 bloody years. It was particularly dear to the hearts of Harley fans, who were able to see some of their favorite models popularized on television. The series was not without controversy, however, with several real-life motorcycle clubs taking issue with the criminal activities in which the SOA participated. Yet in other ways, the series was able to illuminate the lives of club members with realism and authenticity, in part through the employment of several former real-life club members likeDavid Labrava , who played Happy Lowman. With the series' hugely popular conclusion in 2014, many fans wondered what happened to some of their favorite actors and actresses involved in the TV series.

Mark Boone Junior played Robert 'Bobby Elvis' Munson

In the show's universe, Bobby was, most of the time, a voice of reason for his fellow club members. Although not always effective, Bobby did his best to steer the club in a more virtuous direction, guiding Clay and Jax toward more peaceful resolutions to the conflicts that plagued SAMCRO throughout its 7 seasons. For this reason, he has become a favorite character among fans of the series.

Mark Boone Junior, the actor who played Bobby, has been in the industry for a long time, and many may remember seeing him in films such as Memento , 2 Fast 2 Furious and Batman Begins as Detective Flass. And although he started riding motorcycles quite young, he stopped by the age of 19. Now he's back in the saddle, as seen in Sons of Anarchy , now claiming he's hooked for life. Mark is currently still very active as an actor, landing roles in TV series like The Mandalorian , Paradise City and Hightown . He also has 3 upcoming projects according to his IMDB page .

Katey Sagal, as Gemma Teller Morrow

Katey Sagal, as Gemma Teller Morrow, played the strong and ruthless matriarch of the motorcycle club in Sons of Anarchy . There was always something Shakespearean about Gemma's role in the series. She channeled her insecurities, her need for loyalty, and her love for her son into truly evil schemes that even Lady Macbeth would find questionable. A complex character, Gemma is both loving and manipulative, protecting her family and the club with fierce determination. As one of the few female characters in the series, Gemma proved to be a force to be reckoned with, although her powers were sometimes limited by the fact that she was not a true member of the club .

Katey Sagal should be familiar to anyone who grew up in the 1980s and 1990s, perhaps best known at the time for her appearance on the sitcom Married with Children. She is also the voice of Leela in the long-running series Futurama , which was recently picked up for new episodes. But when it comes to Sons of Anarchy , many may not know that she is married to series creator Kurt Sutter. She continues to get TV acting roles, most recently in The Conners and a fun reunion with her Married...With Children co-star , Christina Applegate, in Netflix's Dead to Me .

Kim Coates brilliantly played Alexander 'Tig' Trager.

Tig was SOA 's resident psychopath, seeming to have no morals or codes that he was unwilling to break. And that's saying something, in a show full of psychopaths. From rash decisions leading to murder and season-long blood feuds, to losing his daughter in an act of revenge and being filled with sadness and rage, Tig was the unpredictable element, whose behavior was rarely predictable.

Like many of his castmates, Kim Coates was a seasoned Hollywood veteran with memorable, if brief, roles as a villain in The Last Boy Scout and Bad Boys before parlaying that success into a sustained career. His other notable roles include appearances in Waterworld , Pearl Harbor , Black Hawk Down and numerous television appearances. He has two upcoming projects and can currently be seen in HBO's White House Plumbers . Kim continues to be an avid motorcycle fan and currently has at least three Harley-Davidsons in his collection!

Ron Perlman played Clarence 'Clay' Morrow

There may be no one that audiences loved to hate as much as Clay. Leader of the SAMCRO club at the start of the series, Clay was selfish, calculating, and power-hungry, making him a constant and deadly thorn in Jax's side. The man was a towering mass of swagger and restrained violence, ready to be unleashed on enemies and friends alike.

Ron Perlman had a successful career in film and television long before he was offered the role of Clay Morrow. From Miami Vice to Beauty and the Beast , Alien, Resurrection , and most importantly, Hellboy , Ron Perlman has kept himself busy by appearing in some of the most well-known films and television shows ever created. After Sons of Anarchy ended, Ron continued to stay active with numerous films and television shows. He's starred in Don't Look Up , Poker Face , Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (as Optimus Primal) and has at least eight upcoming projects in various stages of production!

Charlie Hunnam played Jackson 'Jax' Teller

The main character of Sons of Anarchy , and the one most associated with the series, has always been Jax Teller. A man literally born to be the leader of the SAMCRO club, Jax was the son of John Teller, the club's original president before his untimely death before the events of the series. If nothing else, SOA chronicles Jax's slow descent into the questionable and immoral world of biker gangs. His attempt to navigate a life filled with betrayal, paranoia, risk, and murder made for thrilling television during the show's epic 7 seasons. And although some of the choices the character made during the series pushed him to the limit of likability, he always remained a tragic fan favorite, and someone we end up rooting for. Charlie Hunnam, at the surprise to some fans, was born in England, which makes his 7 years on an American TV series all the more impressive.

Before SOA , Hunnam starred in Nicholas Nickleby , Sons of Man and Hooligans , which eventually landed him the role of Jax Teller. During and after SOA , Charlie starred in several blockbuster films such as Pacific Rim , The Lost City of Z , King Arthur: The Legend of Excalibur , Triple Frontier and The Gentlemen . Recently, he completed a limited series for Apple called Shantaram , where he also rides a motorcycle , and he will soon star in Zack Snyder's upcoming sci-fi epic Rebel Moon . And while he may not ride as much as he used to, he still has a motorcycle in his garage from his SAMCRO days.
